OpenAI Expands Microsoft Azure AI with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

AUSTIN, Texas, June 11, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Oracle, Microsoft, and OpenAI are joining forces to enhance the Microsoft Azure AI platform by integrating it with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This collaboration aims to provide OpenAI with the additional resources needed to continue scaling its AI services.

OpenAI, the company behind the widely used ChatGPT, serves over 100 million users each month with its generative AI technology. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that OCI will significantly extend Azure’s platform capabilities, helping OpenAI to grow further.

Larry Ellison, Oracle’s Chairman and CTO, highlighted the competitive landscape of AI development. He emphasized the increasing demand for Oracle’s second-generation AI infrastructure, known for its speed and cost-effectiveness, which has attracted industry leaders like OpenAI.

OCI’s cutting-edge infrastructure is designed to advance AI innovation, enabling thousands of AI-focused companies worldwide to run their workloads efficiently. Some of the notable companies using OCI Supercluster for training and inferencing next-generation AI models include Adept, Modal, MosaicML, NVIDIA, Reka, Suno, Together AI, Twelve Labs, and xAI.

OCI’s specialized AI capabilities allow both startups and large enterprises to develop and train models more quickly and reliably across Oracle’s distributed cloud. For training large language models (LLMs), the OCI Supercluster can scale up to 64,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs or GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchips. These are connected via ultra-low-latency RDMA cluster networking and come with a variety of high-performance computing (HPC) storage options. Additionally, OCI provides compute virtual machines and bare metal NVIDIA GPU instances to support various applications, including generative AI, computer vision, natural language processing, and recommendation systems.
